Women's Heart Health Matters

Did you know that heart disease, in particular coronary artery disease, is the number one killer for women in the UK and worldwide?

The type of heart disease, where the arteries of the heart cannot deliver enough oxygen-rich blood to the heart remains the leading cause of ill health and death among women in the UK and worldwide.

Women are:

  • Underdiagnosed
  • Undertreated
  • Under-represented in clinical trials directed at management strategies for heart diseases.

The key messages to share with your communities are this:

  • Heart disease is the leading cause of ill health and death among women in the UK
  • Women are less likely to be diagnosed and treated properly for heart problems
  • Women often don’t take part in the research trials needed to help scientists learn what to do to best manage women’s heart problems.
