This week on Stokie Street, John, June and Fatima are chatting about how much they love getting out and about and enjoying the fresh air.
Today, Monday 14th November, is the beginning of Self-Care Week 2022 – an annual national awareness week that focuses on support for self care across communities, families and generations. The theme this year is ‘Exercise Self Care for Life’, and focuses on a range of messages including the benefits of positive lifestyle choices, good nutrition and regular exercise.
According to a recent survey, residents in Stoke-on-Trent live closer to green space than in any other city in Britain! Exercise is of course highly beneficial for your health; it improves your brain health, helps manage weight, reduces the risk of disease, strengthens bones and muscles, and improves your ability to do everyday activities. Fresh air also has many great benefits, it not only cleans your lungs, it can also boost your mood, lower your heart rate, increase energy levels and even improve digestion. This is why combining the two can be so beneficial for both your mental and physical health – and it’s also a great way to enjoy the green landscape the city has to offer!
