No Smoking Day this year is raising awareness that smoking can double the risk of dementia, as well as heart and lung diseases.

67% of employees say they would like their employers to promote ways to stop smoking, and Staffordshire County Council’s Workplace Health Service are offering help to support this. Full of helpful resources and advice, you can also get free onsite health checks, including support to quit through Workplace Health Staffordshire.

  • Only 18% of smokers know that smoking can increase risk of dementia, which research shows is the most feared health condition for people over 55
  • Smoking costs UK businesses £8.7 billion per year, due to sick leave and smoking breaks
  • Up to 136 hours of productivity are lost per year, per smoker – costing the average business £1,522 in unproductive wages.
