Understanding basic first aid can make a big difference in the community and your personal life

Understanding basic first aid can make a big difference in the community and your personal life, from helping to treat small injuries to helping save lives in a crises.

Many people want to learn basic first aid, but don’t know where to turn to. But did you know that the British Red Cross and St John Ambulance offer FREE community introductory first-aid education and awareness sessions? These can help you become more aware of the importance of first aid, prepare you for emergency situations, and give you the confidence to help others.

If you would like to learn some first-aid skills at home, the British Heart Foundation have put together an online tool to help you learn CPR.

You might also find it useful to download a first-aid app on your phone, for easy access to advice when needed.

The North Midlands LGBT Older Peoples Group have put together a page of helpful resources to help you find out more!

Just remember, you should always continue to call 999 in an emergency.
For non-emergency medical concerns you can also seek advice from NHS 111. They can provide assistance and direct you to the appropriate healthcare services.
