As the transition of the vaccination programme continues away from a pandemic emergency response, moving towards pandemic recovery, the autumn 2022 booster campaign will close on 12th February 2023. The 2021 booster offer (third dose) for people aged 16 to 49 years who are not in a clinical risk group will also close on the same day.
An autumn 2023 booster will be recommended for those at higher risk of severe COVID-19. Primary doses will also continue after 12th February 2023.
The JCVI has also advised that smaller groups of people who are considered more at-risk, such as those who are older or immunosuppressed, will be offered an extra booster dose in spring 2023. Further advice regarding the spring booster will be provided by JCVI soon.
Although more than 3.3 million people have had their COVID-19 seasonal booster, there are still a number of eligible people who are yet to take up their winter vaccinations. Over the last 7 day period, there is currently 1,193 patients in hospitals in the Midlands recorded with COVID-19. We therefore encourage those who are considered high risk of severe COVID-19 to come forward and get their vaccinations.
We will share more detail about how the next phase of the COVID-19 vaccination programme will look in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent when we receive NHS guidance.
People can book their latest COVID-19 dose through the national booking system or by calling 119. You can also get a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine from a walk-in site without an appointment. People can find their nearest walk-in sites on the NHS website.
