What’s Happening?
Scammers are seeking to exploit the £150 energy council tax rebate that has been announced. They are cold calling residents asking for bank details so they can pay the energy rebate directly.
This is a scam, all those who are eligible for the rebate will receive the payment directly into their bank account and anyone who does not pay by direct debit will be sent a letter with details on how to claim.
What to do
If you unexpectedly receive a text, email or phone call seeking information or payment you should never give out personal information, including bank details, click any links or respond until you are sure it is genuine. If in doubt, find the correct contact details online of the organisation claiming to be in contact and check with them directly.
