Connecting with your Community Training

Many people think that “listening” is as simple as hearing someone else speak. But in reality, it’s less hearing, more listening. Without being able to really listen to someone, messages can be easily misunderstood or misinterpreted causing a breakdown in communication, making you struggle to connect with others and find it more difficult to share key health messages with people in your community.

Connecting with your community and listening is about processing what you are hearing and understanding how that information is being shared, be it through words, tone of voice, or body language. It is about interpreting what you are being told; being aware of both verbal and non-verbal messages.

This training session will help you to develop the skills you need to connect with your community and be an effective Community Health Champion. It will equip you with the listening skills to share key information and, local and national health-related messaging to help improve the health and wellbeing of people living in Stoke-on-Trent.

This training will take place online on 18th April 2023. Once you have booked your place, someone from the Community health Champions team will contact your and share the online event link. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

This training is exclusive to Stoke-on-Trent Community Health Champions. If you would like to become a Champion, you and your voluntary organisation must be based or working in Stoke-on-Trent and be actively involved with the CHC project.
