You might have seen in the news that COVID-19 cases are rising again, with suggestions of a ‘winter wave’. The good news is that we are not seeing the same level of hospitalisations and deaths as in previous waves and this is mostly thanks to the vaccination programme.
The autumn COVID-19 booster is being offered to those at high risk of the complications of COVID-19 infection. As the number of COVID-19 infections increases over the winter, this booster should help to reduce your risk of being admitted to hospital with COVID-19.
Those at high risk who will be offered the Autumn Booster are:
- People aged 50 years and older
- Residents in care homes for older people
- Those aged 5 years and over in a clinical risk group
- Front-line health and social care staff
- Those who care for vulnerable individuals
- Families of individuals with weakened immune systems.
The National Booking System is currently open for those who are:
- Aged 65 and over
- Pregnant
- At higher risk due to a health condition
- Immunosuppressed
- A frontline health and social care worker
- An unpaid carer
We will continue to update you as the online booking system opens to younger age groups. You may also be invited by you GP.
